Our Story…

UNA ACRE FARM IS A SMALL FAMILY FARM IN A MAGICAL PART OF THE WORLD CALLED NEELY’S BEND, A LUSH AND FERTILE ‘NARNIA’ TUCKED AWAY FROM THE BUSTLE OF NASHVILLE, TN AND CRADLED BY A BEND IN THE CUMBERLAND RIVER. WE GROW ORGANIC VEGETABLES, HERBS, FRUIT AND RAISE PASTURED CHICKENS FOR EGGS.

tonya created Una Acre Farm in 2019 from nothing but a dream, with the loving support (and taste testing expertise) of her husband michael, all while guarded by their beloved watch dog scottie. Tonya, an avid food lover and classically trained pastry chef who worked in new york city for over 16 years, couldn’t see herself pounding the pavement forever. Michael could not see their lives growing into the future in their 200 square foot apartment in manhattan. so It wasn’t until they decided to get married and run away from the big apple that tonya could see her dream of owning a farm come to fruition.

back story

in 2014, Tonya & Michael moved to Cleveland, OH for one year so they could plan their wedding while Michael went back to school and Tonya got her first internship on a farm. TOnya fell in love with every aspect of farming and never looked back.

by 2015, The newly weds had moved to Nashville to officially start their lives together and tonya hit the ground running, interning and working at several paid farm hand positions on small farms all over middle tENNESSEE. for the next few years, She worked at a rare breed chicken, turkey and duck farm along with several wonderful small market garden farms. she even ran her own neighborhood farm stand selling her homegrown veggies, homemade sweets and flowers to neighbors.

All the while Michael continued his supporting role as head executive taster, refining his craft one defenseless pant size after the next.

For Tonya, Born a Southern gal Raised in Georgia, moving back to the South after many years of being away, experiencing its summer heat again and reconnecting with vegetables native to The South became a way of reclaiming her childhood, rediscovering Southern life through adult eyes to form a whole new appreciation. Her mother was an amazing cook where dinners could be elaborate productions or as simple as Pork chops, fried okra and homemade cornbread, Even her businessman father grew berries, and maintained a small orchard. it was out of this tradition and love of all things organically southern grown that emerged the solid foundation stone upon which una acre farms was built.

For Michael, born a midwesterner in Cleveland, oh, but having lived in LA, NYC and even spain for a brief while, moving to the south meant another brand new adventure, ripe with characters, culture and cuisine that continues to provide endless opportunities to be surprised and delighted. And also to loosen a button or two.
